Judges comments:

The portrait brief was to express the personality and circumstances of the subject, and also to work as a themed series of three. Amanda Dorcil's portraits of the forties and fifties, do this with sophistication, assurance and delicacy. She shows genuine interest in the subjects themselves and a fine eye for detail, composition and lighting. Her printing technique shows real artistry. The pictures have a definite personal style, one with roots in the history of photography

Amanda maintains the highly constructed, detailed, museum-piece style she showed in her portraits: the continuity of such a demanding technique is very impressive. A lovely piece of work: every part of the print contains its own pleasures.
